Founded by Fred Lundahl and named after his son, toy production began in the 1920s by The Moline Pressed Steel Co. of Moline, Ill.

The name was changed in the 1930s to Buddy L Manufacturing Co. Original toys were made with steel, however, during WWII they began to make toys out of wood like other companies had to do.
